It is almost the third month that Ukraine has been suffering from military Russian aggression. The occupier has been pushed back from the capital, but Kyiv is slowly recovering from the hostilities that took place in the immediate vicinity of the suburbs
As Kyiv police chief Ivan Vyhivskyi noted on the air of a joint telethon, there is no increase in crime, the situation in the city is under control. "Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine, the level of crime has decreased by 50%. Kyiv police have processed more than 130,000 calls," added Vyhivskyi.
Representatives of the public not only confirm the words of the head of the capital police, but also emphasize that the controllability of the situation became possible, including, thanks to the high professional level of work of the leadership of the capital police headquarters. In this context, they also emphasize factors related to the war, such as the departure of citizens from the capital and the strengthening of criminal liability legislation.
In the first days of the war, ten sectors were created in each district of the capital by the leadership of the Kyiv police headquarters, where policemen were stationed on a permanent basis. This organization of police work ensured direct and round-the-clock contact of law enforcement officers with residents remaining in the city.
The head of the Kyiv police emphasized that the vigilance and responsible attitude of the citizens, who had the opportunity to quickly report suspicious facts, and the prompt response of the police to the situation had a positive preventive effect on the level of crime, primarily property offenses and looting. At the same time, it is unlikely that people willing to take someone else's property should relax, because, according to Vyhivskyi, the focus of law enforcement work on the prevention of apartment thefts, as well as on the prevention of illegal possession of cars whose owners left during the evacuation, remains strict.
Undoubtedly, such a direction of police activity as roadblocks is one of the important factors influencing the controllability of the situation in the capital. The head of the Kyiv police explained that in the first days of the war, there were more than 220 checkpoints in the city, some of which were organized by the citizens themselves, chaotically, without centralized management. Over time, all checkpoints were taken under the control of the military and law enforcement officers, were structured, and fortified.
Today, there are 49 checkpoints in the capital, which are staffed by soldiers, national guardsmen, policemen, and representatives of the Teroborona. They implement strict control, especially during the curfew, so the need to follow all the rules at such a time does not disappear anywhere, even with the appearance of some relaxations related to the reduction of the curfew and the introduction of the sale of alcoholic beverages within certain time limits.
"The war is on, the martial law has been extended, so these measures are necessary, they will be continued, they will not be removed in the near future, and the checkpoints will also function," - stressed the head of the capital's headquarters, Ivan Vyhivskyi.
